Mark Rivers started playing drums badly for some not-very-good rock
bands at the age of 12. With practice, he and the bands got better,
ultimately culminating in the formation of Major Haze, three Georgia teenagers'
version of a Canadian power trio.
Mark learned a thing or two studying music theory at Georgia State
University and then three more things studying at Berklee College of Music,
but quit school when he was caught cheating on an Art History exam.
Unable to find any equally Rush-obsessed musicians in the Boston area,
Mark settled for playing with the disappointingly unpretentious Cavedogs,
with whom he released two albums on Capitol Records in the early 90s and
toured the country exhaustively.
When the Cavedogs broke up in '93, Mark became a professional dog walker.
In '95, Mark was employed to write and record a theme song for the HBO show, "Mr. Show."
Sensing an opportunity, he saved up his dog-walking money and moved to Los Angeles.
From that point on it's all been exactly like one drawn-out episode of "Entourage".
Mark has been working in television since his arrival in Los Angeles in
'97 and has found a particular niche writing TV theme songs.
Mark has recorded and toured with several pop bands over the years
(The Gigolo Aunts, Lisa Loeb) and has also worked as a comedy writer with the
likes of Jimmy Kimmel and Robert Smigel.
He truly is an American treasure!
